To Yearn and Return: Study and Song for Elul

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

In Elul, we are invited to connect and reflect, yearn and return, and open ourselves to the possibility of transformation. What do our sacred texts tell us about this time, and what might shine through when we hold our heritage to the light? In preparation for the days of awe, (and her concert at Tremont Street Shul on 9/10,) we’ll take a deep dive into Eliana’s thoughtful, playful original songs for singing together. And of course, we’ll sing!

Eliana Light believes in the power of t’fillah to change our lives, communities, and world. She is a sought-after t’fillah leader, consultant, musician, and artist-in-residence, and is the founder of the Light Lab, a center for transformative t’fillah education. Eliana has shared her unique “t’fillahsophy” as faculty at national Jewish education and songleading conferences, as a guest teacher at HUC, JTS, AJR, and Limmud, and at synagogues, day schools, camps, and communities across the country. ORAH HI, her fourth album of playful, thoughtful original Jewish music, was released in fall 2023. Eliana earned her Masters in Jewish Experiential Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2016. In 2023, she was awarded the Covenant Foundation’s Pomegranate Prize. Based in Durham, NC, she is embarking on “the elul tour,” holding space for sacred song in 15+ cities, and is feeling beyond grateful to sing together. What a blessing!
