What happens when we forget our communal stories? How can we navigate transitions? Together, we'll explore a text from the Talmud (Temurah 16a) that discusses the aftermath of Moses' death, and discuss how we can recover our own narratives.
Jessica Spencer is a founder of Azara, a new cross-denominational yeshiva in the UK. She has taught Talmud in settings including Limmud UK, New London Synagogue, and the Yale Slifka Center, and was a SVARA-HC Talmud Pedagogy Fellow. She is the co-author of poem hashavua, a collection of poems on the weekly Torah portion. Jessica is a final-year rabbinical student at Hebrew College and also studies at the Yashrut Institute. She was awarded the 2023 Whizin Prize in Jewish Ethics for her essay So the Children Should Ask: a Model of Repair. When not learning and teaching, she swims, reads, and muses on the best recipe for hot chocolate.
