Carbs for the Soul: Hands on Focaccia Baking with Nissimmi

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

We are offering this class both at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM on Tuesday, November 5th!

In this hands-on session, participants will learn the art of baking focaccia while discovering the rich stories behind food culture and traditions. Together, we'll knead, shape, and top the dough with fragrant olive oil, herbs, and other delicious ingredients. As the bread bakes, we'll explore how food connects us to our heritage, family, and shared memories. This session offers a unique opportunity to create something delicious while engaging in meaningful conversation about the role of food in our lives, in moments of joy and pain.

This class is not eligible for discount codes.

Nissimmi Naim Naor is a chef, rabbi, casualties informer in the IDF, and the creator of the TV show A Pot of Longing on Israel's public channel. He explores the intricate connections between culture, identity, tradition, and of course, carbs—always carbs—through food.

Nissimmi began his culinary journey in his grandmother Miriam's kitchen, later honing his skills in some of Israel's top kitchens. He holds degrees in philosophy, economics, political science, and law, and was ordained as a rabbi by the Hartman Institute. Nissimmi lives in Jerusalem with his wife Shlomit and their three daughters; his favorite carb is Tuscan black grape focaccia.
