How the Movie "Gentleman's Agreement" Looks Today

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

The 1947 film "Gentleman's Agreement" was an expose of antisemitism that had a major impact at the time. We'll look at the making of the movie (based on Laura Z. Hobson's novel) and how it works (or doesn't) seven decades later. You should try to see the film prior to the session whether for the first time or to refresh your memory of it.

Veteran film critic Daniel M. Kimmel has written for a variety of outlets (including Variety) and was the "Movie Maven" and later editor for the Jewish Advocate (z"l). He has taught at both Emerson Collge and Suffolk University, and is the author of several books of both fiction and non-fiction. He is the recipient of the Skylark Award given by the New England Science Fiction Association.
