Unraveling Mikraot Gedolot: Navigating Torah Texts and Traditions

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

In this monthly class, we will explore one of my favorite books - the Mikraot Gedolot. These volumes print the Torah text surrounded by a smattering of commentators through Jewish history. Each month we will look at a small section from the Torah with the goals of:

1) Coming away with a deeper understanding of the text.

2) Developing a relationship with the classic Torah commentators.

3) Adding our own voices to this ancient and ongoing conversation.

This is a monthly class that meets the 3rd Monday of every month.

At kiddish after his bar mitzvah, Eli asked the Rabbi if he could come back and do it all again next week! Ever since then, he has had a love for learning and sharing Torah. Through lots of visual imagination and clever use of metaphor, Eli has a knack for making the complicated seem simple and for bringing the texts of our tradition to life.
