To Be a Library Lion: From Book to Stage

Join us for a fascinating conversation with renowned playwright and director Ran Bechor, artistic director of Adam Theater, as he shares the captivating journey behind his new theater initiative, which bridges American and Hebrew cultures. This January, the musical Library Lion will premiere at Boston’s Calderwood Pavilion Theatre, featuring a life-sized lion puppet designed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop and original music by acclaimed Israeli composer Yoni Rechter. On the 17th, Ran will discuss the artistic and entrepreneurial choices that brought this professional children’s theater production to life, rooted in classic Jewish culture.

Participants will learn about the transformation of Michelle Knudsen’s beloved children’s book into a vibrant stage production, and view exclusive clips from the show, which debuted at the Boston Public Library to great acclaim. Discover the rich sources of inspiration behind the play, including Bechor’s deep connection to Hebrew culture and the influence of Nobel laureate Shai Agnon.

Ran Bechor is an artistic director, Hebrew playwright, and theater director renowned for his innovative work in theater, television, film, and education. A former head of a school for the gifted in Jerusalem, Bechor now imparts his knowledge of culture, education and the Hebrew language at Harvard University. Recently, he founded "Adam Theatre", a children's theater in the Boston area, driven by the belief that young audiences deserve tailored theatrical experiences that address their unique perspectives and questions. The mission of Adam Theater is to make high art accessible to every child.
