A woman poet, a Yiddish writer, and an avant-garde thinker: Devorah Fogel was anything but ordinary. This class will explore Fogel's poetry, Yiddish cubism, and Jewish magical realism.
Taught by Yael Levy, a Harry Starr fellow in Judaica at Harvard University. She is a historian of modern Yiddish culture and American Jewish history. Recently, she published a Bilingual Edition of Devorah Fogel’s Poetry and Montages (Jerusalem 2022; in Hebrew). Her book on the American Yiddish press is forthcoming at Magnes University Press.
