From the page to the stage to the screen, the elusive character of Yentl the yeshiva student has traversed borders of gender, sexuality, language, and culture. During this interactive, multimedia presentation, we will discuss Yentl’s history and context and consider how a figure who was created by a chauvinist came to inspire so many feminist and LGBTQ+ Jews.
Sarah Biskowitz works at the Jewish Women's Archive. She previously completed the Year Program at Pardes and the bibliography fellowship at the Yiddish Book Center. She has written and spoken about Yiddish culture for various organizations.
