The Extraordinary Letters in Our Torah

Why are certain letters in our Torah scrolls written different from the rest: larger, smaller, curled, broken or even backwards? Come explore the scribal traditions of some rare and exceptional Hebrew letter forms, and the incredible lessons these calligraphic letters teach while hidden in plain sight.

Deborah Thompson Shalshelet is an educator and scholar of Jewish Art, Book History, and Masorah. Deborah is currently a PhD candidate in Jewish History & Culture at Harvard University, where her research focuses on Jewish printing in the Early Modern period.
