In this class, we will explore a profound and mystical interpretation of the Exodus narrative through Hasidic thought, focusing on the concept that God’s wisdom was “in exile” during the Israelites' time in Egypt. This exile of wisdom mirrors the exile of the Jewish people themselves. We will examine how Jewish mysticism understands the hiddenness of the Divine presence, the eventual return of wisdom with the redemption, and what it might mean for our spiritual lives today.
No experience with Jewish mysticism required. Texts will be provided in English translation and in the original.
