Lehrhaus Founder Franz Rosenzweig's 1921 work The Star of Redemption, constitutes a major contribution to both the traditions of western philosophy and Jewish thought. It is a multifaceted and difficult book, and the purpose of this series of meetings is to work through the content of Rosenzweig's Star through group reading and discussion. As a diverse intellectual community, we can hope to better understand the powerful themes of the book, and its consequences in our own lives. Participants should come with a copy of William Hallo's 1985 edition, and should endeavor to read the specified section before the course meeting if possible.
Class Meeting 2: Part I Book I "God and His Being or Metaphysics" (pp. 23-40): The first book of the first part of The Star of Redemption introduces Rosenzweig's dialectical method and uses it to establish our knowledge of the being of God.
Tickets for Session 3 are available here.
