Rebekah: The Quiet Revolutionary of the Torah

The mothers of the Torah are often silent, subservient, and come second to their husbands and fathers. But Rebekah challenges this norm. Through textual analysis we can see how Rebekah might be one of the queerest women in the Torah.

Rabbi Miriam Hoffman is the Reform rabbi at Brandeis Hillel. She received her rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion as well as two masters degrees. She is a long-time Lehrhaus patron, first time teacher.
