Kissing Girls on Shabbat: Judaism and the Art of Writing

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

This class with draw upon Dr. Glass's experience of writing Kissing Girls on Shabbat, a personal memoir about growing up and entering an arranged marriage within Hasidic Judaism, and ultimately fighting to set herself and her children free. As a trauma-focused psychotherapist, Glass learned to use writing as a tool for healing and ultimately for reconstructing her relationship with herself, her queer identity, and her Judaism.

This class will cover the use of art in unlearning and relearning one's Jewish identity.

Dr. Sara Glass is a psychotherapist, author, and speaker based in NYC. Her personal memoir, Kissing Girls on Shabbat, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2024. Glass holds a PhD in Psychology from Capella University and a Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers University. She is the current clinical director of Soul Wellness NYC, a private psychotherapy practice in Midtown Manhattan, and serves as a Clinical Supervisor for Jewish Queer Youth, a non-profit organization that supports and empowers LGBTQ youth.
