Jewish Perspectives on Empathy for the Enemy

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

War challenges the humanity and ethics of all those involved in it, even if the war is perfectly just. One of those challenges is how to think about losses—civilian and military—inflicted by us on our enemies. In this class, we will use Jewish sources and thinkers to think about this difficult and timely problem.

Avishay is a Lecturer in Government at the Harvard University Department of Government, a Lady Davis postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a fellow at Molad: the Center for the Renewal of Israeli Democracy. He writes on Israeli politics and national security.
