Unraveling Mikraot Gedolot: Navigating Torah Texts and Traditions

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

When we take the time to read the Torah slowly, all sorts of puzzling questions arise. Turns out, our sages came up with some surprising answers! Rashi provides the "simple" explanation, but his Grandson, Rashbam, almost always disagrees with his interpretation. A grammarian himself, Ibin Ezra, is very close to the words, while Ramban, the mystic, opens windows to a deeper consciousness. When we learn together it's as if these Rabbis join us at the table. Come add your voice to this ancient and ongoing conversation.

At kiddish after his bar mitzvah, Eli asked the Rabbi if he could come back and do it all again next week! Ever since then, he has had a love for learning and sharing Torah. Through lots of visual imagination and clever use of metaphor, Eli has a knack for making the complicated seem simple and for bringing the texts of our tradition to life.
