Join Dr. Avner Dinur for a personal testimony and political analysis of the events of October 7th from a resident of Sderot. He will use his book, 'Israeli Culture and Emergency Routine: Normalizing Stress,' to discuss the intersections of Israeli cultural production and the nation's 'emergency routine.' Drawing from a rich array of artistic artifacts spanning from the 1960s to 2019, including poetry, prose, film, and graphic novels, this class will explore the ramifications of perpetual stress and trauma on Israeli cultural expression.

Dr. Avner Dinur is a secular theologian and lecturer of Jewish studies at Sapir College and Bar Ilan University. He is the co-chair of Mathanel Bar-Ilan forum for French-Jewish thought, and the co-chair of FAB – Friendship across borders, a joint German-Palestinian-Israeli initiative. Dinur is also a member of the founding group of a new political party – "All Its Citizens". His book "Something to Believe in: Secular Theology" (Hebrew) appeared in Idra Publishing, 2023. The edited volume "Israeli Culture and Emergency Routine: Normalizing Stress" (Editors: Vered Weiss, Irit Ronen & Avner Dinur) appeared in Lexington Press, 2024. He currently resides in Sderot in Israel, neae the Gaza border.
