SOLD OUT: Join the waitlist!

Jewish authors, actors and directors have left a profound imprint on F&SF. Whether through explicit mention of Jewish texts or by nuanced references to Jewish traditions and values, their heritage has helped shaped this imaginative genre. In this session, we’ll voyage through some of the strange new worlds of Jewish speculative fiction that both amuse and inspire us. Sources will include a Neil Gaiman short story on the end of Creation, the Jewish roots of Superman (as well as a Nazi critique) and an excerpt from The Princess Bride. Bring some of your favorite Jewish F&SF recommendations to share as we schmooze and explore new insights together!

Rabbi Josh Breindel serves as the rabbi of Congregation Beth El of the Sudbury River Valley. He holds Masters degrees in Jewish Studies and Jewish Education from Hebrew College, where he was ordained in 2009. As “The Rabbi on the Radio”, he offers weekly reflections and music on Chagigah (WERS). As “The Sci-Fi Rabbi”, he blends ancient Jewish thought with modern speculative fiction in sermons, articles, and an open monthly book group.
