Great Women in the Lehrhaus: When Pappenheim Taught Glikl in Frankfurt

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

In the summer of 1923, Franz Rosenzweig invited Bertha Pappenheim to deliver a lecture on her ancestor Glikl at the original Lehrhaus. 100 years later, we will discuss the feminist legacy of Pappenheim, the founder of the Jewish feminist movement in Germany, who was later revealed to be "Anna O" made famous in Freud's writings, and bring her voice to this new Lehrhaus.

Taught by Danielle Kranjec

Danielle Kranjec is currently Associate Vice President of Jewish Education at Hillel International. A nationally recognized relational educator, Danielle served as Director of Campus Initiatives at the Shalom Hartman Institute, and prior to that was the Senior Jewish Educator at the Hillel Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh for eight years. Inspired by her work to elevate the voices of Jewish women and others marginalized by the tradition, her colleagues at Hillel International coined the eponymous Kranjec Test to determine whether the sources from which we teach are inclusive. She lives in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh with her family.
