A Person is a Tree in The Field: Created in the Image of God?

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

Jewish tradition likens people to trees. Kabbalah likens God to a tree. If people are trees, and God is a tree... 🤔 Come celebrate Tu Bishvat by exploring the intersection between nature, human, and Divine. We will look at selections from the Hebrew Bible, the Talmud, and classical Kabbalah. No previous experience is needed; texts will be explored in English translation alongside the original Hebrew/Aramaic.

Geo Poor is a doctoral student at the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership, where he is focusing on Kabbalah. He is the Director of Operations and Finance at the Vilna Shul in Boston. In his spare time, he creates daily(ish) memes about Talmud and Kabbalah (IG: jewishyomemes), bakes babka/challah of wacky and delicious flavors, and plays archery dodgeball.
