A Feminist Read on the Introduction to the Tanya

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

Join Hebrew College rabbinical student Hindy Finman to learn from the Tanya, the foundational text of Chabad. The Tanya was written by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi in 1796 as a guide for how to serve G-d. In this class we’ll study the introduction to the Tanya and explore the questions: For whom was the Tanya written, and how might it be relevant today?

Hindy Finman (she/her) is a fourth-year rabbinical student at Hebrew College. Hindy grew up in a large Chabad family and started learning Tanya in Kindergarten. Over the past decade Hindy has been teaching and learning Torah and Chassidus through a mental health lens with the goal of normalizing the human experience. Hindy is a ceramic artist, pretends to play the banjo, and loves cold water swims.

Open to all learning levels, texts will be provided.
